Moorhen + Green is a British neo-noir thriller written by Ben Grace, in development and ready to enter production.
When £82,000 of stolen drug money disappears, a deadly game of cat and mouse begins. Moorhen, a sadistic fixer with a twisted sense of humour, is tasked with retrieving the money and identifying those responsible. His investigation leads him to Green, a reluctant member of a local crew whose seemingly airtight alibi begins to unravel as Moorhen’s relentless pursuit closes in.
Forced to navigate Moorhen’s increasingly dangerous search for the truth, Green finds herself fighting not only to protect her own life, but those around her. As alliances fracture and suspicion spreads, she must decide how far she is willing to go to shift the blame elsewhere — and whether anyone can remain beyond Moorhen’s gaze.
Shot on 16mm film, Moorhen + Green combines the grit and shadow-drenched atmosphere of classic noir with the energy of contemporary British life. The raw, textured character of the format gives the film a visceral visual identity, immersing the audience in its gritty urban settings and heightening the tension at the heart of the story.
Balancing dark humour with sudden, unsettling violence, the film explores morality, loyalty and survival through sharp dialogue and volatile character dynamics. Its uneasy shifts between humour and brutality create a world that can be both grimly funny and genuinely dangerous, where the truth is just as valuable — and treacherous — as the money everyone is chasing.
The screenplay has been warmly received, including by BAFTA-winning screenwriter Fay Rusling (Green Wing, Breeders, Smack the Pony), who described it as: “I really loved it – it’s really well written, love the characters, they really jump off the page…”
